From Med School to Forever! Sanmi & Tobi’s Wedding Will Brighten up Your Day
The phrase “love conquers all” isn’t just a decorated sentence that people say to make love look cool. Love is indeed powerful and today, we’re celebrating its very essence, through love birds, Sanmi and Tobi!
Sanmi met the love of her life, Tobi in medical school, thanks to her aunt who had mentioned him to her. They soon became friends and eventually, much more. Now, here we are celebrating their beautiful journey and “happy ever after” story.
They tied the knot in a colourful Yoruba trad and went on to seal the deal in a beautiful white wedding ceremony with family friends and loved ones all present to share in their joy. From the prep to the vow exchange, reception and after-party, one thing was clear – Sanmi and Tobi are head over heels in love and it absolutely shines through. The great vibes, hearty cheers and contagious joy at their beautiful joining will totally brighten your day.

How We Met
By the bride, Sanmi:
I was visiting the UK in 2011 when my aunt asked me if I knew Tobi, stating she’d known his family for many years and that he was 3 years ahead of me in medical school. I was in 300 level, and I had never heard about him. So, I promised her I’ll look for him when I returned to Nigeria. As soon as I got back to school, I asked around about him and found out he was in his final year. “Hiiii are you Tobi”, those were my first words to him when I saw him walking opposite my hall one sunny afternoon, on my way back from classes. We quickly became friends and I remember from that day forward; we spent every single free time together. We were inseparable, it was magical. From taking long walks around our university campus to several dates at our favourite restaurants to long phone calls when we were physically apart, we learned so much about each other and it didn’t take long to realize we were in this for the long haul.
However, our journey wasn’t the smoothest because I was really young when we met and my parents were not having it. Who was this guy coming to “distract” their daughter who was studying to be a doctor? Being in a romantic relationship wasn’t in their plans for my life at the time. But Tobi and I knew what we wanted, we knew our journey was divine and we were dedicated to making things work despite the odds against us. I graduated in 2015 and he proposed to me in 2016 shortly before he moved out of the country for his master’s degree, and we kept waiting in faith for our wedding. We talked every day about everything, and nothing could keep us apart, not even the 9-hour time difference. Almost 2 years after, I also left Nigeria for my master’s.
Despite our strong desire to be together, neither of us liked the idea of going against our families. We wanted their support, we wanted peace, we wanted to do things the right way. So, we waited and just prepared for the life we envisioned. We travelled together and made lots of beautiful memories while also advancing in our careers. It took many years of prayers and tears to see our dreams finally come true in 2021, after 10 years. We travelled back and said “I do” in the presence of our parents and loved ones. Everyone was in agreement, all issues had been settled, and we had a very beautiful celebration. Love found its way to us forever!

Gbemi and Collins met at a mutual friend’s birthday party. From one intriguing line to fun conversations in the DMs, a forever love story was eventually born! Collins popped the big question years after their interesting first meet and of course, she said Yes. How We Met
By the bride, Gbemi:
On September 11, 2015, my close friends and I made a trip to Maryland for one of our other friend’s birthday party. She had moved from Florida to Maryland for graduate school and we hadn’t seen her in a while, so we were all excited. During the party, she introduced Collins to us. He came with one of his friends, who was invited. When I saw them, I told him he looked familiar. He was trying to figure out where he had seen me but couldn’t figure it out. Later on, at the party, Collins spotted me again and called me over. When I got to him, he asked where I had seen him before because I said he looked familiar. And I replied, “I said you look familiar because you are my type” and I walked away.
I know I shocked him with my statement and left an impression. That was the last time I saw him at the party. When I returned to Florida, I got a friend request on Instagram and I noticed it was him but I could not remember his name. He liked a few of my pictures and sent me a message saying “Oh you’re the girl from the party”. I laughed and we had a great conversation and exchanged numbers. After talking constantly, enjoying conversations, and getting to know one another, we were officially boyfriend and girlfriend on October 24, 2015. We were a long-distance couple until I relocated to Maryland for travel nursing in the summer of 2017. We have been inseparable ever since.
Collins’ Side of the story:
It was September 11, 2015, and one of my best men Aderogba Ademiluyi invited me to a birthday party for a friend we mutually knew. Upon entering the party, the birthday girl introduced us to her friends. One girl, in particular, stood out and mentioned to me that “I looked familiar”. Befuddled by where she recognised me from, I introduce myself and the night continued. The party switched locations and when the moment was right, I called her over and asked “Where do I know you from?” She responds “I said that because you are my type!” and she walked away. That was the last time we saw each other at the party. I couldn’t just let it end at the party.
I did my diligence and was able to find her via Instagram and sent her a friend request. After like a couple of pictures, you know “applying pressure”, I sent her a message inquiring if she was the girl from the party. That message led to us exchanging numbers and having a plethora of conversations. After talking constantly, enjoying conversations, and getting to know one another, we were officially boyfriend and girlfriend on October 24, 2015. We were a long-distance couple until Gbemi relocated to Maryland for travel nursing in the summer of 2017. We have been inseparable ever since.

Tayo and Mayowa met at their mutual friend’s wedding party and now, it’s their own wedding! Don’t we just love how poetic love can get! The pair got traditionally hitched according to the Yoruba customs and it was an all-around colourful affair. After this, tied the knot to the witness of friends and family, in a beautiful outdoor white wedding ceremony.
Tayo was such a chic and exquisite bride and her sweetheart came through sleek and dapper as well. As you know, when it comes to partying, the Yorubas don’t play and they made sure to celebrate this beautiful love affair to the fullest.
